Anxiety before interviews
Hi everyone, I‘m a sophomore at a US semi target uni. I get really bad anxiety a day before and on the day of an interview/superday. It gets so bad that I literally can’t get out of bed and feel extremely nauseous.
Has anyone experienced this too and how were you able to overcome this? Would be really grateful for any advice, thanks!
Would definitely seek help. If you can't perform for this type of interview process you will have a very difficult career. The presentations you will do later on will carry more stress and pressure than ever before. Not trying to be negative, simply suggesting that you fix that root of this problem rather than finding some temporary way to cope with it.
My advice is to try and identify what part of the process in general is causing this anxiety. Without a lot more detail it's hard to say what might help. Maybe others can chime in here who have dealt with this.
Thank you! I agree, I should probably get some help on how to overcome this.
Would be great to hear from others about what worked and what didn’t
Personally dealt a lot with anxiety issues since childhood that affected my scholar, sports and social life severely. One thing that I've found is that (in my case) can be balanced by practicing meditation to put things in perspective, cultivating gratitude independently of the outcomes and using the root of that fear as a motivation to go beyond in the preparation stages.I can't say too much more without knowing more specifics about the situation but I'm happy to share what has worked for me, as the advice before suggested is always a great idea trying to get proper professional support.Much force and patience, you got this
Thank you so much for your advice, truly appreciate it!! I will definitely look into that
You're welcome mate, just keep going and be patient, there are good days ahead and you'll be proud of yourself 💯💯💯
I gotchu fam.
I was really nervous for my first in person IB superday. I was talking with another student and he gave me the best advice for this. He said that he read somewhere that the feeling of nervousness and excitement are really similar in our brains, so instead of being nervous, just take that feeling and see that you’re actually just excited about it. You’ll feel the switch immediately. It kind of reminds me of butterflies before playing a sports game. Trust me this works. I was so nervous before my first interview, I even felt nauseous and wished I didn’t have to go to the interview. This trick worked perfectly and I got the offer that same night. The key is to really psych yourself into the idea of being excited and then just stop thinking about it. Now I love interviews.
