Anyone think they did bad in an interview, and then got an offer?
Hi.. I'm a major pessimist and I'm trying to not be one. I mean it does keep me grounded ig because trying to recruit for Summer 2021 (for my junior year summer internship) has faced me with a crap ton of rejections already. I was wondering if you all had any suprise success stories?
Messed up technicals with one associate (mind you not even hard ones) didn't even connect really well with any except one VP (six interviews)
Sent thank you email and received 0 response, two days later got offer from EB (current firm and 1 of the 2 offers i received) so all in all you never know
Target school?
Are you good looking by any chance?
Yep. Messed up the one major technical question I got throughout the whole process, and one of the interviewers was literally working on a trade during the interview lol. Thought I pretty much bombed but got an offer by email a week later. You never know.
.
Lol and that's why everyone shits on diversity / women's programs so much.
Yeah. Walked out of my current bank superday thinking I didn't make it since I missed 3/4 in the brainteaser round. After I started, was talking about it with the associate that asked the question and he basically said he didn't care at all about those questions...he just didn't know what to ask, so pulled out some generic brainteasers, but not important.
Thought an MD I interviewed with didn't like me because he seemed cold/uninterested the entire time and left my interview 5 minutes early because he said he had another call. Sent thank you emails to everyone and didn't get any responses. Didn't hear back for over a week, but I did end up getting my SA position from this bank.
for my superday I thought I did really well in my first interview with a MD, messed up on an easyyy technical for a diff one with a VP (he had to explain it back to me- I def bombed this interview bc I was rlly nervous after messing it up), and then the 3rd one was meh with an associate. Got the offer in a call a few hours later!! (from the MD in the first interview).
guess lesson learned is that impressing just 1 person can sometimes be enough??
first round phone screen for a mid-tier BB (2 phone calls with 2 senior bankers)
all fit - was okay but kept getting cut off cuz of bad cell service and he ended the call earlier than we were scheduled for (30 mins; talked for maybe about 20)
all technicals - screwed my way through most of them, bumbled my way through a wacc build up because i was so hungover, he too ended the call earlier than we were scheduled for
received offer the following week
i think i saw someone on this forum mention something which i quite agree with - you're never as smart as you think when you're on top, and you're never as dumb as you think when you're at the bottom
just have heart, keep grinding through it and trust the process
all the best and i hope you receive good news soon
Yeap. Interviewed for a fund where:
First interview ended up being a 2hr FA exam. Thought I did literally everything wrong and ended up going through to the next stage.
Second Interview had some technicals and mostly "tell me about you" "why X" type of questions. Did really well on that one
Third Interview & final round with my to-be boss where I ended up telling a story of an investment which ultimately led to me saying that a tribe in Africa was fucking too much and thats why they were having problems. Though It was an absolute game over for me but ended up getting the job
