Applied to GS a few months ago, got a call from HR if im interested in a similar role in another city, next steps?
3 months ago I applied to a GS office for a S&T SA role. Received an automated rejection and thought that was the end of it. However, recently HR phoned asking if I'm interested in a position (not SA anymore, but full time [I've just graduated]) in another city. Both cities are pretty large and I'm equally happy at both locations.
Now should I wait till they finish talking to the relevant team and get back to me, or should I call back and see what's going on? I got asked to take their number down during the call, don't have their email. I do have an offer waiting from a T2 bank, which I should respond to soon, and would prefer GS. So for these reasons and my personal excitement, I wanted to reach out and see what's happening, but if it's not a good look I would just sit tight. However I'm also worried that with the passage of time an undesirable event might occur, like filling the position or forgetting about my profile.
So, call them today, wait till maybe mid-week, or just wait till they get back to me? Thanks in advance!
Since you prefer GS, you might as well go for it. That being said, I wouldn't put the offer from the other bank in jeopardy by waiting too long to hear back from Goldman Sachs. Depending on when the offer from the other banks, I would wait at maximum two weeks to hear back from GS. If you don't hear back from them a week after you contact them, follow up and wait another week. If they don't get back to you, assume the worst and go with the T2 bank. You don't want to risk not getting either offer.
Thanks for the advice. I wanted to give the T2 a response this or next week latest, and it does make me feel a bit pressured waiting till last minute. Due to not having had a 2nd conversation with GS yet, would you say it's fine to call them next business day, and try to arrange something asap and then let it breathe and run its course?
I don't know if and when I could interview for it, or what my chances are to secure an offer. I'm just assuming it's a good sign given they reached out to me quite out of the blue.
If you haven't already contacted them more than once, than yes, you should be find doing that. Yes, there is a good chance, but you also have to "manage your risk," so to speak, so that you don't lose your offer from the T2, just in case for some reason the GS job doesn't work out. That's the ultimate priority here.
