I’m sorry to hear that and I don’t have much advice for you other than tell them the truth as you have been. Doesn’t sound like you were being malicious.
On another note, that is such a stupid policy. If you can’t reference people’s applications easily AND you get through all the interviews and they offer you a job then that is their fault. I’m floored that they would rescind an offer, they should be happy they found a candidate that passed all their interviews. Why would you not want to hire that person?!
Sounds completely ridiculous. If you weren’t a good candidate you would have failed the interviews.
That’s exactly how I see it :)
I passed everything with good reason. Let’s just see. I think it will be fine, but of course there is a chance they may rescind. I’ve already been onboarded basically- I have been invited to events, assigned people within the company to talk to if I need help before I join, assigned a personal point of contact, been invited to join the committee etc etc…
This is definitely Ernst and Young
I wouldn't worry about it to be honest. Seems like an honest mistake and you probably won't have too much trouble with it. Worst case scenario and you get you offer pulled, the big4 are pretty dry on talent right now so getting another offer from another firm should not be too challenging. Are you going for something besides audit?
Guys, they ended up rescinding my offer…
Damn, well first off I’m sorry to hear that. But what was even their reasoning? You were obviously a well qualified candidate and this isn’t a situation of you lying on your resume or something. It honestly just seems like it was out of spite and if that’s the case then fuck working there in general.
yea expose the company that rescinded, that some legitimate fuck shit
Just be honest, and let fate take care of the rest.

What kind of company puts limits on when/what jobs you can apply to? Seems insane.
I think the best you can do here is show them that you are mature and professional - reiterate your interest in the position, why you are a good fit, how you understand you made an honest and how it may have (stupid) consequences.
But, also... take a step back and ask yourself... do you really want to work for a company who is so rigid to the dumbest policies and lacks efficient organization they only catch that you applied to two roles now?
