Can I get an Internship for the Summer after Graduation?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently a sophomore at a non-target university in western New York. I came to the U.S. from Ukraine about 1.5 years ago to study Business Analytics, not fully sure of what I wanted to do. Fast forward to today, I’ve switched gears and am now pursuing a triple major in Finance, Accounting, and Mathematics.

Over the past year, I’ve networked quite a bit and recently completed a buyside equity research internship at a small hedge fund in Rochester (~$80M AUM). Unfortunately, my networking efforts haven’t been entirely successful; my school has limited alumni in equity research, and I f'ed up with the single alum university has in ER at a decent firm.

On campus, I’ve been heavily involved in various activities. I’m part of the University Student Managed Investment Fund (currently managing $1.1M AUM) and serve as Vice President of Student Government amongst others. I’m also leading my school’s team in this year’s CFA Research Challenge, and we’re optimistic about advancing beyond the local stage, with the potential to go even further.

Due to my packed schedule and my efforts to transfer to a more competitive school (aiming for those ranked in the top 15), I haven’t been able to secure a prestigious internship for Summer 2026. That said, I’m confident I’ll find something for summer of 2025 and 2026, possibly in commercial banking or an equity research internship with a MM firm.

I’m wondering if I still have a shot at landing a solid internship for the summer after graduation. Is it common to secure a post-graduation internship in this situation? I’d love to hear any advice or feedback. Thank you so much for your time and insight—I really appreciate it!
