Can I reach out to PE Partners?

For context I am a sophomore d1 athlete at a athletics focused school that has a decent amount of finance presence. There are 2 partners at a UMM PE that were athletes at my same school, but different sports. They have had sophomore interns in the past but all from targets and/or GWI.

Is it ok/worth it to reach to them directly or should I start with Associates and VPs that I have essentially no connection to?

Also, they aren’t donors or involved with the school or Athletics so not able to get warm intro through coaches or AD.

I guess I should have phrased it better. Is it worth wasting a cold email on them or should try with associates first? I don't want to just spam around the office and lose a chance at a great connection.

your chances of getting an offer from this place, as you put it, sounds minimal so you have nothing to lose

Why would you start off with an aso if you cant get an internship the normal way (as in networking with juniors)
