Is it possible to change career from auditing to a research focused role in investment advisory?

anything is possible my friend. Life isn't a fairy tale but if you work hard and make the right moves, it will happen.

Got the CFA and made the move you are gunning for from audit (not into research but into Asset Management).

Don't see why not…. My journey was BO Finance (BB IB) -> FO Infra Investment role

I think the key advice I can give is to find a way to differentiate yourself. For me, this was becoming very good at financial modelling, so that once I managed to get interviews (which is hard) I was at least able to outshine all the bankers out there who can't model for shit. Furthermore, if you can prove you have invested significant time and effort it clearly displays a keen interest in the role and a strong work ethic, positive signal for hiring managers
