Career Path Advice

I'm graduating in May and I think it's time to stop procrastinating the field of finance I should be trying to get into.

I'm an economics major at a semi-target school, 3.5 gpa, have taken a pretty broad sampling of classes, including stats, accounting, programming. Main drawback I have is I have no relevant work experience in finance. I've spent my summers travelling or taking summer classes.

I'm really interested in buy-side jobs but from what I've read PE and HF would be a long shot to say the least. I have some connections to a few small HF's and could most likely get an interview, but I may not be of any use to them.

I'm more interested in something that stays under 70 hours most weeks, and am okay with 40k starting, and longer term under 100k.

I know I'm being very broad but I'm just looking for some suggestions on how to start my career. If there's a relevant FAQ I glanced over I apologize if you want to redirect me there. Thanks

You talk as if you're in a situation in which you can choose.

Well, am I mistaken in thinking I have to choose where to apply?

I might not get where I want immediately, but I thought asking about the typical first step would be useful.
