Chances of breaking into ib?
How difficult is it for a target school student(ross, stern, haas) with a 3.6 gpa to break into ib? I’m aiming for boutique to potentially MM banks looking at the sheer competition for BBs.

They like to see above a 3.7 at least, since your from a good school youre fine, just work your technicals and be normal in interviews and youll be aight
I keep seeing this type of response but truly, how often are students even granted first rounds after applying? I thought it was quite low
It depends on what you do before applying. If you are super active in your investment banking club, go to info sessions that the banks hold at your school, have talked to a few analysts/associates at the target offices you're looking into, spread your net wide, get your resume in front of these analysts/associates/HR before they start recruiting, then you have a great chance at getting an offer.
Your response seems like its from someone who doesn't put in any effort, only practices technicals and expects first round interviews to roll in without doing much else etc.
Hopefully it shouldn’t be too hard
