Chances of pivoting to boutique IB firm

I'm 2 years into a PM role at a F10 healthcare company with a deferred M7 MBA offer. I'd like to pivot to IB at a particular boutique firm that focuses on healthcare before enrolling into bschool.

My background has nothing to do with finance, so my plan is to:

  • learn financial modelling
  • create a bunch of models on various healthcare companies
  • share this deck with the recruiter to signal commitment and knowledge

Is this worthwhile? What else should I do? Or is there something else that would be more effective?

(P.S. Pivoting would purely be for learning this side of the business. I'm uninterested in IB post-MBA, so name brand of firm doesn't personally matter.)

Thanks!

So essentially your pitch to them is that you have no IB experience, have a deferred M7 offer and have no plans of working in IB post-MBA? I'm not saying this to be rude, I'm just trying to spell out how bad the value proposition is for the bank sitting across the table. What exactly would your story be for "Why IB?" "Why XYZ bank?" "Where do you see yourself in 5 years?" if you were the slightest bit honest about any of those it would sink your chances.
