Choosing an offer between 2 AM spots
I'm choosing between research associate spots at 2 different long-only AM funds.
One is a very junior associate position in a pool (shared across PMs) at a Capital Group / Wellington type AM. The other spot is an assigned sector at another fund working under one PM (think Algers, Clearbridge, Federated).
The second role is pretty appealing because I get an assigned sector off-the-bat vs first role where you are just a shared resource.
Wanted some advice what would be better in terms of career progression and future opportunities down the line?
BUMP. Need to make a decision soon
Bump
Capital group. They pay well and have good upside
Would this be true if the path to PM is clearer in the other role?
Unless the specific PM has an impressive track record and is someone you’d really want to bet on career-wise, go to Cap Group/Wellington, IMO. Any preference on location? LA vs BOS vs NYC are all very different
Cap Group / Wells hands down. Their RA program is the gold standard in the AM industry. You can always exit to other long onlys after 3-4 years as a generalist into a more sector focused role afterwards.
If it's Cap / Well I'd definitely take it. Fido and T. Rowe also both excellent and definitely take those too.
I'd do Clearbridge only if you're working on Value Trust. Don't know as much about Algiers or Federated.
