Cold email vs Linkedin message
I'm currently recruiting for 2024 SA positions and have had trouble getting responses on cold outreach I've been doing both cold emailing and LinkedIn messages with only a few responses. For current bankers, are you more likely to answer a cold email or a LinkedIn message? Also, I can pump out LinkedIn messages a lot quicker than emails, so even if I get a lower hit rate it may be more efficient for my time. Also, I'm at a non-target and reaching out to everyone from analyst-md looking at people from my school first, then anyone who I share connections with. I'm aware the low response rate may be because of the content in my emails / LinkedIn requests, here are the templates I am using. Any and all advice is appreciated.
Linkedin:
Hi Name,
I came across your profile because we share connections. I would be extremely interested in 10 minutes of your time in the next 2 weeks to discuss your role at bank, specifcally recent activity in the [GROUP] group, as well as the recruiting process.
Thanks,
[MY NAME]
Email:
Hi Name,
I am a President’s List Finance Student at [MY SCHOOL] with experience in Private Equity and Venture Capital.
I found [DEAL 1] and [DEAL 2] that bank recently completed extremely interesting. (these may not be as recent due to current market but they are recent in terms of deals done)
I am extremely interested in 15 minutes of your time in the next week to learn more about your role at bank specifically with recent market activity in the [GROUP] space.
Please see my resume attached to better understand my background.
Thanks,
[MY NAME]

I’d change your email format up a little bit. Saying your a “presidents list finance student” sounds kinda weird. Also, I don’t think you need to single out specific deals on a cold email. I Just think that your template could be a little more concise.
Didn’t read all that but for the love of god do NOT LINKEDIN MESSAGE ME. It’s presumptuous (maybe me just being anal) but you message and add me on LinkedIn and if you never get an interview/offer we’re in each others networks for what…plus LinkedIn pings are annoying as they go to my personal phone and I think it may be a recruiter / someone I actually know in person vs. a channel I am expecting to hear work related things from. You should Find the bank email format and cold email (tried and true, as analysts in my group during recurring season we are encouraged to take X number of calls, report our feedback and when recruitment is wrapping up, we intentionally stop taking chats)
Does this hold for trying to get opps at smaller HFs? Most don’t have a standard email format or whatnot.
