Confused on what to apply for

Hello! I am new to this forum. So first I will start you on a background.

I am currently about to graduate in December with a degree in Finance, from a non target school (University of Central Florida). I have a 3.1 GPA and will most likely remain around that. Honestly, I do not even care too much about getting exactly into Investment Banking, but I do want an entry level analyst position at a prominent investment banking firm, even if it is not in IB.

My Work Experience: Bartender at Disney for 3 years summer internship at a Financial Services Firm.

I also got a nice letter of recommendation from my internship manager, who previously worked on Wall Street for a number of years.

I do not care wherever in the world I get a job at, I just want my foot in the door for JPM, GS, Deutsche Bank or another prominent firm. However, I am confused as if I need to apply for a summer internship program or if I just apply for a full time position. I am also confused as to which program I apply to as well. For instance, I am looking at JP Morgan. They have these positions they are hiring for:

Internships: RIsk Management Analyst - Hong Kong, Singapore, London, USA Markets off cycle Analyst - Australia, Germany, Spain, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom Global Treasury Management Analyst - Bahrain, Hong Kong, Singapore, U.S.A., United Kingdom, China Markets Analyst - Australia, China, France, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, U.S.A., United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom Investor Services - Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, U.S.A., United Kingdom Wealth management Analyst -France, Hong Kong, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, U.S.A., United Kingdom Commercial Banking - U.S.A. Asset Management Analyst - Canada, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, U.S.A., United Kingdom Global Finance Analyst - China, Hong Kong, Singapore, U.S.A., United Kingdom Investment Banking Seasonal Analyst - Belgium, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom Investment Banking Winter Analyst Program - Australia Corporate Analyst **-China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Thailand, U.S.A., United Kingdom, Australia **Audit Analyst - USA Investment Banking Analyst

The bold items also have a corresponding Full Time position opening for Undergraduate levels.

I assume Investment Banking without an internship is next to impossible, but what about the other positions? I am sorry if I may be vague.

These are only for JPM, but I imagine almost all the other banks have a similar set up to this.

Also I want to stress that I will literally go anywhere (London, Singapore, Tokyo, NYC) wherever! Thank you very much!

Internships are meant to be for those continuing their education after the internship (some firms won't even let you apply if you'd have graduated by the time of the internship). However, some people do take summer analyst roles after graduation and hope to convert it to a full-time offer. It's case by case, firm by firm.

You can certainly get a full-time position without an internship, but keep in mind that most firms fill their full-time analyst classes with summer analysts and only hire if they don't get enough conversions. The more 'front office' the job is the more true this is. Probably not an issue for Ops & Finance.

You have not shown a real understanding of what all these different divisions within a bank do. They are vastly different types of jobs with vastly differing skillsets required. You need to narrow down your search by a lot.

Also note that you can't just go work in another country, for example if you get a job in Japan you will need to get a work Visa through your employer. Ditto most other countries.

Are you doing 3.5 years or 4.5 years in college?

You don't want to work at the financial services firm where you interned? That is probably your best shot right now.

Its going to be real hard getting into any place like JP from filling out online apps coming from UCF with a 3.1. You're going to have to network, reach out to alumni, and possibly go to a regional bank.

Also, saying you have a "3.1" and "it will probably remain that" with a semester left is a bunch of crap. You better get (you need) a 4.0 this semester.

Well I mean if I get a 4.0 GPA this semester my cumulative may grow to 3.2 which your right would help. So there is basically no way to get an analyst position at a bank without a summer internship with them, which is highly unlikely since I will be graduating in December.

So do you suggest in the meantime getting a teller position at a branch? And what maybe transfer in?

Maybe you should consider not graduating early in December with a low GPA and taking some more courses in the fall so you can jump into the normal recruiting season.
