D.E. Shaw Finance Associate Position Interview

Background: senior at a target school, econ major

I was recently invited to a 30-minute phone interview with D.E. Shaw for the Finance Associate position.
I was told to have pen and paper ready...
What should I expect?
I don't think they would make me do arithmetic problems over the phone since I can always resort to a calculator.
Pen & paper is kind of intimidating.

Also, what should I expect for later rounds, besides a stock pitch?

Thanks!

I read somewhere else on here that this guy apparently had a phone interview with GS where he had to answer c++programming questions over the phone. Someone was on the other end typing it in and compiling it.

I hope you don't have to do that. Good luck.

is it a support role or is it considered front office? i've heard shaw is in hiring mode right now - is that true?

i can talk to some of my friends at shaw once you let me know more of the position description

specific duties are :providing support for existing businesses and trading strategies; facilitating the implementation of new strategies; coordinating accounting, operations, compliance, tax, and infrastructure issues; data analysis; and development of systems specifications. The successful candidate will be a motivated self-starter with an eye for detail and some financial experience.

thanks i would greatly appreciate it. i applied months ago not sure if they are in a hiring mode but i heard even for 1 position they interview like 400 ppl or so..
