Decline job offer after signing offer letter
So, I signed an offer letter at one company and a week later I received an offer from another company, which I would prefer to work at. The second company also offered me a much better salary. I electronically signed the offer letter from the first company but want to withdraw. Do I have any legal obligation to the first company? I live in an at-will state (if that helps) and haven't completed my drug test yet either. Both jobs would start in June.

No, you don't, plenty do it every season. Just remember it's a small world out there though, and pulling the move you're about to pull has backfired on people before, you wouldn't be the first.
Sign second offer pass drug test. Smoke a big fat one to celebrate the better offer, then promptly take the drug test for the first company.

Don't won't to waste too much time here...I recently accepted an internship position with one of the Big 4 in their Audit practice. Their deadline to accept was August 31st, way before Summer Analyst positions were starting interviews, recruiting, etc. I don't really like Accounting as much as I do Finance, but I thought it would be a good place to start my career if nothing works out in Finance (which I'm aggressively going after).
Long Story short, If I'm offered a better summer position in the future how bad would it be to back out of the Big 4 firm? I know I would be burning bridges with the Big 4 firm but I don't think I would have much career interaction with them anyways.
Thoughts?
If you want to do finance and get a front office finance position then back out of the offer - it's your life. It may upset your school though so just understand what the repercussion there will be.
I figured that the school would care more about their Big 4 acceptance percentage rather than my career too.

I accepted a summer internship at a boutique and I signed on an offer letter with them. But now I got a better offer from another shop and I was thinking of backing out from the previous one. I haven't started working for them or anything and I don't know any confidential deal information there. Here is the question: what will happen to me if I back out from the previous one and accept the current one? Is there any risk of doing this? Will I get in any legal problems? Again it's a summer internship here.
I don't have any experience in this area and would greatly appreciate any insight you guys could share with!

OK Thanks! I just searched for it and took a look at different stories there, the bottom line is: the downside is high and the upside might not be worth it.
However, I do want to share the two boutiques I am struggling with and hopefully get some opinions: the first one (the one I agreed) is a real boutique, 4 person firm, and some small deals going on, they pay me. The second one the one I want to join is also a boutique but a slightly bigger one (think 10 person) and has some small mm to mm deals, they don't pay me but they are slightly bigger. Both of them are focused on M&A. The first one has businesses in many sectors and the second one is mainly focused on healthcare.
I am targeting big 4's valuations group or M&A group for full time positions.
Which one would put me in a better position when it comes to full time recruiting? Should I renege?
