Do American hiring managers even care/know about European universities?
I attend a top and very competitive EU business university (globally ranked top30 by US news, top10 by QS news). We are a strong target school for IB and consulting with frequent campus events, where we can meet with recruiters from Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, ect.
Many of my friends have easily gotten internships in MBB, IB, and Big 4 at their respective European branches.
For some context, I am part American so (for legal reasons) I physically have to be in the US on a seasonal basis. Naturally, I began searching for (consulting-related) opportunities in the US. For the past month, I've applied to MBB & Big 4 for consulting positions, but also to smaller firms and for less competitive positions (think business/corporate strategy, finance). However, when applying I was baffled that my university was not even an option on the "attending college" drop-down; I had to click "other" and manually enter it. And after I've started to hear back from some companies, I am realizing that I'm finding it very hard to find an internship (of course, I understand that it's a challenging process).
My point is that it feels like my university, despite having solid global rankings and European recognition, in the US it doesn't bring you anywhere, and the prestige is really overlooked.
Please let me know your thoughts, I'm curious to hear your opinions!
You gotta network. Applications mean dogshit. Dropdown menu doesn’t matter.
