Do firms recruit more SAs when sophomores leave?

Sophomore SA at a BB in a strong group but have recently become interested in covering a different vertical where my bank isn’t very strong. Do firms recruit more juniors post summer after half their sophomores leave? If so, how does this process work? If not, should I just start networking directly with groups in my desired vertical and keep those connections warm for when FT recruiting rolls around? Thanks for the help.
