Does CFA help ?

Im a student and I’m bout to complete my CMA in a couple of months (Cost management accountancy(In india )) or (Certified Management Accountant as they call it in the US) Also prepping for my CFA lvl-1 The main reason behind me taking up CFA is I really wanted that extra edge over other candidates when it comes to selection. The question is : -Will it give me an extra edge over others ?? - what other basic skills i need to master from now on to get in smoothly into banking & nail it ?? Also wanted to know about how do i start networking with people ? How to know about the open events hosted by the Banks (if something as such exists ) where i an meet people and expand my horizons of knowledge, know more about the industry ?
