Emailing Alumni as a Freshman

Hello few people that will actually read this,

I am about to begin my freshman year at a private college that places pretty well in its area for IB in a few weeks. I'm about to begin emailing alumni and current members of  it's "IB placement" club to start building connections and improving my chances of breaking into IB. The questions I have are:

1. Should I only focus alumni that went to a select few shops or should I just try emailing as many alumni as possible?

2. What talking points should I bring up as a freshman with only simple modeling and industry knowledge?

3. Any other advice that you'd want your ignorant 18 year old self to know lol?

I realize I'm not the most knowledgeable on this stuff and it may not end up being the career for me after all, but I at least want to learn some more about this field and keep my options open. Thanks in advance for any help!

PWM, local boutiques, companies HQ’d in the same city as your college.. it doesn’t matter. I’m just saying that more than likely you’ll have some bad calls in the beginning and I wouldnt want to ruin my schools only relationship at Goldman on my first call
