EY FSO --> TAS or STOUT RISIUS ROSS for Valuation Career
Hi Everyone,
I'm currently having trouble deciding how I can get good valuation experience.
I have program offers for EY's FSO audit - which I can work 2 years then hopefully transfer into the TAS department for valuation. On the other hand, I also have an offer from STOUT Risius Ross.
For a career in valuation/IB middle or backoffice, should I work my 2 years doing audit at EY then transfer departments? or Should I go with the lesser known STOUT?
Lmk what y'all think
Hey, I'd go for SRR. There's no guarantee that you can transfer to TAS/Val from Audit, and in fact its often quite difficult to change groups in Big 4. Beyond the 1-2 year work experience you mentioned you'll also need support from your partner/managers which is conflicting, esp. if the transfer ends up not working. Not saying impossible, but when I worked in TAS @ Big 4, a fair # of people from tax and audit were interested in transfering, but ended up not working out not because they weren't smart or could do the job, but more because there was no standardized transfer procedure or available capcity.
Don't know too much about SRR, but have heard about them. Typically valuation/tas work is standardized, so while the brand name will be different, the mechanics and what you'll learn won't be that variable.
Doing 1-2 years at SRR you'll get a better sense of if you want to continue a career in valuation, and that point you'll be marketable if you want to swap firms, or even move into something different.
Hope this helps.
