Fake ID Charge

I was charged with underage consumption and fake ID, but both charges were dismissed. I have an offer for 2025 BB, and have been forthcoming with the HR manager, but in Cisive there isn't an option to do dismissal outright as a report. I know it'll come up, and I'm nervous that by saying no I've ruined my chances—what should I do?

Bump, a similar situation. Have gotten MIP/fake ID charges but it’s expunged from my records and I’ve passed 2 other background checks. Do I need to inform the HR for my SA or am I probably fine even if it shows up

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Transparency is Key: Since you've already been forthcoming with the HR manager, you're on the right track. Honesty is critical in these situations, as lying or omitting information can be a much bigger red flag than the charges themselves.

  2. Dismissed Charges: Dismissed charges are generally viewed less harshly than convictions. However, the concern with a fake ID charge is its association with dishonesty, which can be a sensitive issue in finance roles. That said, many WSO threads suggest that dismissed charges, especially for minor infractions, are unlikely to be deal-breakers if handled correctly.

  3. Cisive Reporting: If the Cisive system doesn't allow you to report the dismissal outright, you should still disclose the incident in the most accurate way possible. You might consider reaching out to your HR contact to clarify how to handle this in the system. This proactive approach shows integrity and ensures there are no surprises during the background check.

  4. Mitigating Concerns: Use this as an opportunity to demonstrate personal growth. If asked about the incident, focus on what you learned from the experience and how it has shaped your decision-making and professionalism moving forward. Employers value candidates who can turn mistakes into learning experiences.

  5. Likelihood of Impact: While some WSO users have shared stories of offers being rescinded due to compliance concerns, others have noted that dismissed charges often don't carry significant weight, especially if the candidate has been transparent and the issue is in the past. Your proactive communication with HR already puts you in a better position.

In summary, continue to be honest and proactive. If you're unsure about how to proceed with the Cisive system, consult with your HR contact for guidance. This will help you maintain trust and demonstrate your commitment to transparency.
