Was speaking to my parents and they said they knew of a friend in a BB that they were distant friends with. I Google said person and I find out he is an MD in HR. The most recent document I can find on him is from the 2010 annual report. Is there any way to find out if he is still working at the BB? I'd rather know before diving into conversation with him.

Also, you're thinking about this the wrong way. If he's still there, obviously he can help. If he's not, he can still give you great advice, possibly refer your resume to people he's still in contact with, and even tell you "insider secrets" that he wouldn't if he was still employed.
Really there is no reason NOT to reach out to this guy.
Figure out his email address and use an email validation website. Problem solved.
