Fired for Meal Expenses

I was fired by my firm for agreeing to let a coworker use my name to order meals. This also does show up as the reason for termination on my U5. I do realize that I made a mistake and feel terrible it cost me my banking job at a BB. Has anyone here been in a similar situation or can share any color on what are the odds of being able to work for a broker dealer again? Buyside recruiters pretty much never show me any opportunities upon disclosing this to them. So although I have close to two years of banking experience, feel it might be a good idea to try to go back to banking again before pivoting to the buyside.  Any thoughts and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Was the co-worker fired too?

Did he pressure you or something? Was this just a one time 20 dollar meal or something you guys had done for years?

I would suggest you try to get back into banking again instead of trying to jump right into the buyside of recruiters are giving you the cold shoulder based on this.

I've dealt with something similar (not quite as bad as yours). You should negotiate the U-5 language if they haven't already posted it. it sounds like all you did was not say anything when he or she used your allocation

It will make your life tougher but I've seen people recover nicely after some time.

how many years of experience do you have? if at least a couple years, your prospects improve immensely

But this makes no sense, unless (pardon me for saying it like this) you were dumb enough to be out of the office, and ordered food using your email/account claiming you were in the office for a buddy.

Lol you fr? Used to pool dinner codes with the boys all the time and would routinely use codes for people who weren’t in the office. Was basically understood that if you weren’t there then someone was using your deal code and literally no one cared. That blows dude, guessing it’s tough to even get the look for interviews but if people knew I doubt they’d care. Mark on the U5 tough to shake though, banks are way too risk averse to let it slide.

Yeah it really sucks man but hopefully not career ending. Just hoping to find someone/firm who would be understanding.

Let me know if you have any pointers.

How would you go about it? My thinking has been to reach out to people in my network really. Esp. after realizing that pretty much all recruiters/HHs blacklist me as soon as I disclose it upfront, which I need to do.

Thanks.

I don't really have proper advice but I'm so sorry to hear that, I can't imagine how stressed you must feel.

I do know some people who had similar incidents, a few managed to jump banks but they were pretty senior, and I know some juniors that moved to corp dev or other finance roles, so I don't think it's over yet.

Good luck, and happy to lend a ear if you just need a non-judging person to vent to!
