First post: trying to dive right in....

Hello,

I've been browsing the site for a few weeks now and have some vague questions and general concerns for which I'd really like some feedback. I'm a graduate student in accounting with a bachelor's in mathematics, both schools are non-targets. I got into accounting on a whim because I had no plans after graduation and thought it would be interesting to learn about the fundamentals of finance and business. I'm really enjoying my accounting courses and found an internship at a F500 company doing mostly tax work. I do not want to stay too long as it is my understanding that tax work can be somewhat limiting to one's career development. I don't know as much of the vernacular as I'd like, but it is now my goal to find some position as a financial analyst. That's it. I don't know enough to talk about specific sectors, so I understand if this post is annoying. I am just starting, so I have no delusions about my employability as of now. I want to keep learning (I would finish my program in a year and a half if I continued) and start to network and hopefully land an internship within that time period. What steps can I make today that will lead me in the right direction--e.g., to get to know people in the business, to get the right credentials, to take what I have and turn it into what employers want?

If this questions just sucks and is met with negativity, I understand because I sound like an idiot being so vague. I'll continue to browse the forums and learn through coursework, and hopefully be able to talk to people like you at the level you are used to.

This is the nicest and most self aware "dumb" post ever. Best of luck to you, hope you get some valuable input here.
