Follow Up on Thank You Emails

I overthink a lot so this might be a stupid question, but I thought it would be better to be safe than sorry. I'm currently networking as we all do, and I've had some pretty great 30+ min long calls where the person at the end was really helpful and would bring up the fact that they could introduce me to more people on their own. I sent a follow up thank you emails where I politely asked for any recommendations on people to talk to and also informed the person that I already submitted the SA 2026 app already. I haven't gotten any responses to my thank you emails, and since these connections prev said they would introduce me and make referrals, I'm not sure if it's procedure or routine to send follow ups to thank you emails.

tldr; will they find it annoying/spam if I sent a follow up to a thank you (esp if they were the ones bringing up the fact that they would make referrals first)

You should follow up, and as the user above points out, 1 week to 1.5 feels right. Keep your email short (e.g. "Hi [ ], Thanks again for your time [over the phone] - appreciate you taking the time. I just wanted to check if you'd had a chance to think about helpfully connecting me with someone else on the team? Best regards, [ ]")

People have an insane ability to write emails which are way too long.

Best case scenario is that it just slipped their mind and they'll act on it. Worst case scenario is...nothing. They aren't (unless you're incredibly unlucky and met an awful person) going to try to ding your application because you followed up.

Word of caution - referring your application is different to introducing you to other people. I'd never actively tell someone I referred them (not because I'm nasty, but just it's something you typically do as a banker), so you might not know if they have. Obviously if they said they'd introduce you to more people though, you should've had a response.

Thank you so much for the advice! The best connections that I've had with bankers have ended with them saying, "I think our apps are open so feel free to tell me what I can do for you or whether you want me to connect you with other people in my team," which is why in my thank you emails I've always ended them saying something like 'btw i applied + recommendations on people to connect me to?' --I'll keep your tips in mind during the process and thank you again!
