Found Out Me and Other Analyst are Interviewing for Same Position

So I was recently interviewed for an acquisitions analyst role (would be a lateral move) at a firm I was really interested in. I had my final rounds last week. I just found out that the other analyst on my team had also been contacted by the same headhunter and is having their final rounds this week.

Is it a sure sign that I didn't get the position if they're still interviewing this week? I'm feeling pretty upset and competitive about the situation. Not sure if anyone has dealt with something similar. Thanks.

Doesn't mean 100% you didn't get it, especially if you are meeting with new people at each round. The team or in most instances the big boss will make the final decision and already has that in their mind. But most jobs they have to go through all the interviewers even if they already are promoting internally. Look at Cap One they put most through a ton of interviews and a ton of the time just promote from within.

Just let it play out, you both might not get the job. People can fall out. People could crush you in modelling but just don't gel under pressure questions.

Thanks, this is a good point. Just makes it so much more competitive when it’s your coworker. You think it’s worth mentioning to them or just dropping it?

I don't know the vibes of the new team, I mean the people at least if they are paying attention should notice you guys are from the same place and probably team. When I interviewed people especially Analysts, 1st years, Junior associates level I always did a deep dive on their resumes. I'd ask questions about it to try to actually learn how they reacted under pressure or off topic questions. All really depends on the teams. But if they are all Corporate then I definitely wouldn't bring it up.

You are young and if one of you gets it might be able to help the other get over there at some point if you both really like the firm.
