Freshman Summer Internship at a BB PWM got terminated early. What do I do on my resume?

So long story short, I networked my way into a freshman summer internship at a bulge bracket's PWM division. Great experience and I was loving the job. Yesterday, my MD called me into his office and said they had scheduling issues on their end so it would be best for us to part ways right there and then. Basically, it was a sugar-coated way of telling someone they got canned, effective immediately.

This was an absolute shocker because this MD had always been very easygoing and always cracking jokes, and I did not do anything out of the ordinary that would justify a termination. I probed around for a reason for the termination and my MD finally just told me that he was "getting tired of my tardiness" which was another surprise to me. Yes, there were some days where I pulled up to the office about 5-10 minutes late, but there were plenty of interns for other groups that also pulled up late. My MD also did not once express his discontent with this. Not even a warning or a private talk with me to discuss my behavior.

I guess in the end it probably is still my fault that I wasn't punctual for an internship, but I just wish MD was more communicative about his discontent. When I asked him if I can get another chance, he straight up went "he never gives second chances to people" in a particularly harsh tone.

Anyways, now I am stuck in a little bit of an odd position. I started this internship six weeks ago in early June 2022, and my resume has to say June 2022 to July 2022, which just looks so sketch. What do I do? Should I leave off the date? Just put Summer 2022? Or potentially do something else?

L for showing up late and not taking it seriously. Classic freshman move. You live and you learn man.

Does this story sound fishy to anyone else? A termination at a BB that was not handled by HR? That doesn't sound right at all. I'd say there's some non-zero probability that the OP is making this up.

That's reasonable. +SB

I'm willing to concede that there are some MDs out there that might handle this on their own. But in my experience, that's rare. It's also fishy because the MD gave him a reason for the termination. In most of these cases a reason is never given, just a "thank you and good luck" and the kid is sent on their way (by HR). I mean, most of these summer classes are so tightly controlled by the "local" HR rep that is their point-of-contact for everything. Just seems weird that in this story the termination was not handled by them.

Yes, it was one of those branch internships in NYC that weren't recruited through a formal recruiting process.

Also thanks for the tip. Should I include the exact dates on my resume (e.g. 3 June 2022 to 18 July 2022) or something? Or should I still just put June 2022 to July 2022 and use your excuse if someone asks about the dates during an interview?
