Getting relevant work experience in a gap year for investment banking
I am currently on a gap year after sixth form and I am in pursuit of some form of relevant work experience for investment banking that I can talk about in my CV for my spring week applications . A lot of the programmes banks have are for sixth form students or undergrads but as I'm on a gap year I'm considered as neither of those things.
So there is not a lot of opportunities openly advertised for people like me .I was planning to cold call funds and management firms in my area (I live in oxford) , but Im not actually sure how to respectfully carry this out realistically .
If anyone could give me some advice or if they were in a similar scenario ,it would really help.
LSE BIG has a guide (or at least they used to) on how to find and email firms for 1st year summer internships. Just do the same thing.
In same position lol. I'm doing the Bloomberg Open Market Concepts certificate online, and hoping to get onto the Morgan Stanley Summer Academy (series of online webinars). I've got some private banking work experience as well.
What have you got on your CV so far?
Mate i worked as an assistant to an accountant for about month ,but we all know that was just ctrl c + v .Other than that I did some virtual work experience but that isn't much at all .
Fair enough. Look into the Bloomberg Courses
It is absolutely not worth paying for the Bloomberg Market Concepts course. Unless it's free then it's maybe barely worth.
Search up 'The Brokerage' and become a member, they are kind of like SEO London, but do loads of internships for Gap Year Students. It won't be directly IB related, but you can find Credit / AM / Sales / Risk roles etc. which is better than nothing at your stage.
