Good news
With all the schadenfreude regarding undergrad school, FO vs. BO, bank or group prestige, and the like, I figured this forum could use some good news to lighten the air.
I just received a 1st-year IBD analyst offer from a BB. I graduated in 2008 from a top 50 UG with a top 25 UG bschool that still has no presence on Wall Street. I finished with a 3.3 cumulative GPA after lacking discipline, focus, and knowledge of what I wanted to do with my life during my first several years.
To the prospective monkeys, be prepared to get your hands dirty and scrap for an offer. You will get knocked down MANY times on your way. I even had to leave a full-time job and move states to intern for pennies at a not-so-reputable boutique that left me poor and without an offer.
Huge thank you to M&I, BIWS, and the WSO forums for all the stuff you normally can't learn as an outsider. Just know that with focus, discipline, and resolve, you can land that offer.
OP, Thanks for posting this.
I have said it before and I will say it again, breaking into IB is a war of attrition. You simply must fight harder and longer than the next guy.
Congrats OP.
As for the other comment about non-targets helping each other out, it is to some extent true. I've reached out to non-target people who went to different schools and they were more than happy to help me simply because I was a fellow non-target.
congrats! hope you enjoy your time there :) should be a nice place to work, i'll look you up next fall for recruiting, lol...
First off man, congrats. I'll be in a similar situation as you were probably a year or two ago. It really helps knowing that it can be done. One question though....Intern @ a boutique or work in a non banking financial position?
You say you graduated in 08... what were you doing in the meantime? Something related?
