HELP. How should I answer this rather simple question?
I'm a first year student at a non-target university. I've recently just discovered my interest for finance (orginally enrolled in engineering), and so I haven't gathered that much knowledge or experience on the finance world. I recently just attended my first networking event where I came across this man who represented one of Canada's largest banks. However, unlike the multitude of other discussions I had entertained with other banks and firms, this man offered me a position as an intern for the IA department, despite only being a first year student. Furthermore, he also had a second-year student with him with which I discussed the possibility of working with this bank. After adding him on LinkedIn, he once again proposed the idea that I apply for this position, but this time, he asked me a question that left me dumbfounded; How would I, as an investment advisor, find and attract 5-10 million dollars worth of clients each year? Any help on how to answer this question would mean the world to me. As a first year, apart from basic business terminology, they don't teach you much, especially not about sales. I was told this was the best place to find help, and here I am looking for it.
Thanks again,
billy_
