How cooked am I

Hey yall can I get some honest feedback about my chances of landing a good job? I know recruitment is picking up and I simply wanna know where I stand. I have around a 3.6 from a semi/non target school but have been networking a lot. SInce the summer, I have probably done over 60 calls and have 30 relationships across different banks I consider to be pretty strong. I have my technicals down and feel like I am decently good at the behaviorals. Will I automatically be written off for my gpa?

Your GPA of 3.6 from a semi/non-target school is not a dealbreaker, especially given the extensive networking you've done. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's how your profile stacks up:

  1. GPA: While a 3.6 is slightly below the typical 3.7-3.8+ threshold for top-tier banks, it's still competitive enough, especially if you can demonstrate strong technical and behavioral skills. Networking and relationships can help offset this.

  2. Networking: Completing over 60 calls and building 30 strong relationships is a significant advantage. As highlighted in WSO threads, having 2-3 solid connections at each bank (preferably at the VP level or higher) can be instrumental in securing interviews. Your networking efforts show commitment and initiative, which are highly valued.

  3. Technicals and Behaviorals: If you feel confident in these areas, you're in a good position. Many WSO contributors emphasize that once you get to the interview stage, your ability to perform well in technical and behavioral questions can outweigh a slightly lower GPA.

  4. Next Steps:

    • Leverage Your Network: Use your strong relationships to secure resume pushes and referrals. This can help you bypass initial GPA filters.
    • Target Boutique and Middle Market Banks: These firms may have more flexibility with GPA cutoffs compared to bulge brackets.
    • Tailor Your Story: Be ready to explain how your GPA doesn't define your capabilities, emphasizing your networking efforts, technical skills, and work ethic.

In summary, you're not "cooked" at all. Your networking and preparation put you in a strong position to land interviews. Keep pushing, and focus on converting those relationships into opportunities.
