How Do I Make Friends During My SA?

Might be a dumb post, but I’m genuinely struggling with this.

I’m 20, don’t have a fake, and came from a non-target, so I don’t really have a pre-existing college group in the city. I also haven’t found myself naturally getting pulled into plans. It’s not like people are inviting me to things and I’m saying no. There just isn’t much to say yes to.

Work is fine, but outside of work I feel pretty isolated. I know “just talk to other interns” is the obvious answer, but that’s easier said than done when groups seem to form fast or already exist from school.

For anyone who was in this spot, how did you actually build a social life from zero during an SA summer? Like literally what did you do in the first couple weeks?

Focus on getting the return. Only thing that matters these next two months.

I mean no shit man but I'd like the process to be more fun if possible. It's not like having friends is gonna make me eat shit.

Just ask ppl in ur group if they want to go out, start a group chat.

Genuine question to ask yourself: If ur not willing to spend on a fake to go out in New York at 20 years old genuinely what is the point of making this money?

I was in a similar spot when I did my junior summer internship. Honestly, I hung out with interns and just explored the city by myself. It got lonely sometimes but I was focused on the internship and knew it was temporary. Now, working full time in a city where I had no friends,I spent a lot of time building a community because this was my full time life now. I don’t regret not putting much effort into social life during the internship.

take initiative and invite people to stuff - make a plan to grab food, hang at yours, go do an activity or something and get the other interns to pu. ask people individually vs in a group chat bc higher chance people will respond if you talk to them separately.

also really easy to ask the other interns to grab lunch. literally j be like “yo im gonna go grab chipotle wanna come” and it’s a quick and natural way to spend some time w them and get to know them. And then use this momentum to invite them to bigger things (“do you guys wanna come over to mine and drink / hang out / etc”).

if people not inviting u to stuff, u should take the initiative. u got it
