How Late Is Too Late?
Hello everyone,
I am currently a student at a non-target with an unimpressive GPA (3.5, terrible start to college, been playing catch up since) and I have 1.5 years of school left, but I can extend it to 2 years if necessary. I major in IS and Finance, and my goal was to land at a tech company, however, I am drawn more to IB each day. I have always had a fascination with the finance world but didn't think it was possible given my background; however I am willing to try and work hard for it even if there is even a small chance. Obviously, I have no relevant experience as I had mainly focused on tech (although I am interviewing for a FP&A position at a Fintech company, I doubt it would mean much but probably better than nothing) and no networking experience either. So, my question becomes, given my background, how screwed am I? Is this even a realistic dream, or should I just go for? Any tips would be appreciated, and thanks in advance, I really appreciate it.

Hope that helps.
Not worth the hassle. Probably won't happen. Find a sweet corpfin gig at a growing tech company that will give you equity. If you want to give IB recruiting a shot, your best bet is to use the FP&A experience to target FinTech focused boutiques or coverage groups through networking calls and impress them w your industry knowledge. That's your only chance in my opinion. Save the time and energy and target specifically the IB teams that you can impress with your experience not your credentials. FT partners still won't give you looks bc they're picky about GPA and test scores, but there's a bunch of others. Gugg, HL, Truist, and several boutiques have FinTech coverage teams or focus on FinTech that you can start to reach out to.
What GPA would FT Partners be looking for? Specifically for a non-business Ivy student?
I think it is very possible. Everything is possible if you put in the effort. If you still have 2 years left then start learning more about valuation techniques and applying for Summer internship positions. Don’t be picky about the banks and also leverage LinkedIn as much as you can.
