How prestigious is BlackRock? Specifically Alt. Investments?

Considering an offer at BlackRock in their Alt. Investments group in one of their direct PE funds. I can't even tell if BlackRock is prestigious.

I go to one of these schools (dont want to dox) Ha/St/Wh.

Should I keep recruiting? End goal is VC

I know absolutely nothing but I've always got the vibe that BlackRock is the asset management equivalent of a Wells Fargo, HSBC, BNP Paribas in banking. Not excellent. Not bad. Pay is decent but not top. Absolute behemoths in their industries in terms of size.

Obviously BlackRock started out from Blackstone but who knows if that even matter anymore.
