how to break into PE straight out of undergrad

hii, current freshman here. Let's say I'm a international student, with a 4.0, in a top 30 school, what can i do to break into a top PE firm out of undergrad:)? I know it's extremely hard, but I'd like to know it will take. My parents are sort of in finance, idk if this will help a bit.

thank u!

Hey I saw that! Can u specify  a little bit, I know everyone networks, does internships, and is in clubs, but how would u stand out amongst other people who are doing similar stuff ?

Well, something I've seen is that people who end up at big funds as analysts, usually did really strong Sophomore IB/PE internships at like bulge brackets. I've also seen PJT restructuring summer analyst in junior year summer to PE analyst. Having summer stints in the very top groups seems to be a common theme. So aim to get the best possible sophomore internship you can possibly get. To do that, you should get something for this summer asap. I can't really tell you step by step how to do that because I wouldn't know myself but a good start would be to tap into your alumni network and start building relationships.

It’s quite tough to get into direct PE out of undergrad but there’s still a shot

My route was that I did a spring week (UK) at a BB , did a summer at a BB and then did a summer again in my final year at a MF which has converted to FT.

Some even do the Spring week at MF to Summer at MF route but for the most part it’s been diversity / woman.
