How to follow up with people I've met or reach out to alumni I haven't met?

I'm graduating spring 17 and am looking for FT positions in IB. I have a few connections I've made, some have said to reach out to them again later in the year so we can discuss FT opportunities at their firm. How should I go about emailing or following up with them? I also want to reach out to alumni that I've never even met before. Is this a good idea? If so, then how should I go about it? I go to a good but non-target school so there are alumni in IB, just not an abundant source.

I'm on a similar boat as you. I go to a non target school and want to get into banking. My schools only had a hand full of people that got into big banks. The best advice is to figure out which people in your network are actually serious about helping you. It's also important to judge what size bank you should go after as well. Unfortunately we aren't all going to get into GS, MS, JPM. But one of the best ways to leverage your network is to find the top 5-10 people and try to sit down and talk and or have coffee with them. That way they can get a feel for where you want to go and possible use their network to help you.

Best of luck!
