HR people are killing me
I’m currently recruiting for 2021 summer and networked with a bank and secured an interview. Now the following sequence of events transpired.
Three weeks ago: scheduled phone screen with HR, and the HR person doesn’t show up to the interview, never calls me. I reached out politely and asked if I could reschedule, and the person doesn’t even acknowledge that they missed the interview.
two weeks ago: finally talk to HR person and move on to the next round, which is a video interview with an analyst.
The hr person sends out one of those calendar links via email where I fill out my availability, and I fill out 6 different days of blocks of 5-6 hours. the person doesn’t respond for a week and I reach out again. HR responds by sending me an automated “None of your times lined up with the interviewer” emails.
One week ago: I fill out my availability with another 5 days of many hours of availability
Today: Still have not heard back...
So first of all just wanted to rant.
second, what should I do now? This is one of my top choice banks.
i dated an HR girl from morgan stanley...very cute....but dumb as bricks...completely unorganized too. most of them view HR as a job to waste time and make some $$ until their acting/model career takes off...i shit you not...this was 80% of the junior HR girls attitude....they don't give a fuck
i don't understand the Monkey Shit (not that i really care)...just giving real information on my experience. Her name was [name redacted]...yes she worked in morgan stanley HR...yes she was hot...yes she was a freak in bed (this was a positive)...yes she was dumb as bricks.
We're just waiting for the LinkedIn profile.
Did you actually type her name and then redact it
Tell us more about the bed part
HR people are useles...
I'd be interested to hear other people's opinions on this, but do you have the analyst's name? If so, maybe reach out directly and ask when is convenient for them as you are having trouble working through HR. Most analysts will acknowledge that HR is totally useless.
Yeah dont reach out to the analyst. you only have opportunities to fuck up if you do this. keep the process through HR and then you have them as a scapegoat if scheduling or something becomes rough.
Don’t tell the analyst you have a problem with HR...The analyst is responsible for that only interview and he/she will pass you back to HR. Imagine how HR reacts.
It doesn't get much better as your career progresses (ie professionalism regarding this stuff from HR and others). I promise you that, OP. Hang in there but be mindful that we are in kind of a pandemic situation and that over 20 million people have filed for unemployment in the last month and there are whole industries changing/potentially collapsing at a pace never seen before.
In short, for many there are thoughts of tomorrow and what will happen, will I have a job etc, rather than SA 2021.
While recruiting this past year I ended up networking with someone who happened to have a good relationship with the Head of IB at a lower MM bank. After awhile my connection reached out to the head of IB - I was even forwarded an email where the Head of IB told my connection that he would reach out to HR and was looking forward to meeting me in-person. Thought I was a shoe-in
Long story short, after a few unanswered emails to HR I called them up 3 weeks later. Person on the phone didn't even know who I was, and after "checking-in on my status" for 2 minutes she said they would not be moving me on to an interview. I couldn't even get an interview with a fucking recommendation from the head of the whole dept lol
That means he forgot to send the rec, not that his rec didn't work.
shoulda followed up ASAP brotha, prolly theres a form or something that he forgot to fill
Yeah the head of the dept either forgot to send the email (most likely) or just didn’t want to deal with it so said he would do something. Most likely it got lost in the shuffle and forgot about it.
If a head of a dept recommends you, 99/100 times you get an interview (your resume has to be terrible, you just don’t fill stuff in, or you have some major red flags, I.e. associated with radical terrorist group type stuff...standard group maybe ok, it’s the radical part that’ll get you no interview).
If this was recent I would follow up with your connection, getting someone an interview as a senior person is not difficult.
This. If this happens, you find the MD's details, mention the email while re-sending it and ask warmly again for another intro.
You'd be surprised how often these HR decisions are "overturned" or "oops our mistake" or whatever.
Banking at its core is a sales job. This means its competitive and there is tons of rejection. Go hustle. Hopefully lesson learned man.
Yep - lesson learned. Defintiely better to be potentially a little annoying with a follow-up than to just let it go. Squeaky wheel gets the grease
Most HR ive come across (even the ones at my bank) are very disorganized. My group has lost out on so many good resumes because we didn’t get a chance to set up an interview with them.
Find a way to politely ping HR on a weekly basis until they give you a clear timeline. also network with the junior staff on the team so show you’re interested in their way. Depending on the group, most juniors in front office aren’t working on new originations much in these times so should have time to speak.
You must have bad luck because most HR people are really sharp
Mate you've gotta be joking... right?
I guess the sarcasm wasn’t dripping enough.
It's totally hit and miss in my experience with HR. I've had good and bad experiences. What they don't realize is that in some cases, a bad HR manager/team could affect reputation and even put off a future/current customer from using their services. I know someone who had such a bad experience with HR at a bank that they switched. Ye be warned
In my experience, I have met both good and bad HR. Some companies simply haven't adjusted enough to online work after the lockdown. Some people need time to do this, as they have always worked in offices. I noticed that things are much better for those who are engaged in outstaffing services in the IT field. This is just obvious, since all these guys are perfectly familiar with various applications and have enough skills to pass online interviews without any problems. I think that soon it will penetrate into all spheres of activity. This requires several years of practice. Progress does not stand still.
STRONGLY disagree with this
Sometimes even in large companies there are very unorganized hr
