I lied about working at YMCA when applying for Summer Analyst positions

I am half way through my SA position and I got an email from HR asking for documentation to verify I worked there. I know I am an idiot for lying about working a job at YMCA but I had no prior work experience and I wasn't getting interviews. What should I do?

Young man, you’re going to be fucked

Unless you go to your Y and find a dick to be sucked
Suck some dick in exchange for the relevant fake paperwork at the Y-M-C-A

Honesty may be the best policy here. Hopefully apologizing and explaining your sitch / why you did what you did will make things better. Problem with lying is that it can turn into a vicious cycle of needing more lies to keep it going (like a pyramid scheme or a roll-up). Hopefully biting the bullet now so to speak before it gets worse can be manageable and will end well / better than you expect. Good luck!!!  :)

I wouldn't respond to HR. If they ask again say it was a volunteer position and nothing else. This will kill your return offer (likely dead once they find out anyway), but HR moves so slowly you can probably finish up the internship without getting too deep into any investigation. I wouldn't admit to anything or come forward with honesty, just delay as much and say as little as possible, IB is a super small world and you don't want your next firm circling back with people in your group and figuring out why you didn't get a return.

You really need to start networking for a different FT job ASAP.

Way back when I was a lifeguard there used to be people that would babysit at the pools. They weren't employed by the Y but ... if you feel comfortable with the risk of another lie, you could soften the blow and say you didn't 'technically work at the YMCA' but were hired by a family friend to watch their kid during the summer at the pool.

Hopefully that helps! Good luck, brutal situation.

i would suggest you say that you were a volunteer for things like community cleanup and homeless groups meals and cookouts, and unfortunately there is no paperwork to verify that info, as your participation was very informal as a "helper".  Then i'd suggest you go do a couple of those things in the future (it only takes a couple hours) to create some good karma.

just google it...you're welcome

Take these suggestions and delete this. Idk if banks look at this website, but you don't want to risk it. Like someone above said, not many interns in IB this summer have been asked to submit proof of working at the Y so it wouldn't be hard to trace this back to you.
