I misspelled the R in KKR as an K to a Recruiter. Am I cooked?
I was finishing a deck and was very tired. The response was really short, so I didn't proofread.
Has not gotten a response. Pretty sure I blew my chance at KKR but could I lose my job at my bank?
Help
Congrats on impromptu meeting with HR
Based on the most helpful WSO content, making a typo like this is definitely a rookie mistake, but it’s not the end of the world. Here’s how you can handle it:
Damage Control: If you haven’t already, send a follow-up email to the recruiter acknowledging the mistake. Keep it short and professional. For example:
"I wanted to quickly follow up and apologize for a typo in my previous email. I realize I misspelled KKR, and I take full responsibility for the oversight. Thank you for your understanding."
This shows accountability and attention to detail moving forward.
Perspective: While it’s embarrassing, a typo like this is unlikely to cost you your job at your current bank. Mistakes happen, and what matters is how you handle them. As seen in WSO threads, owning up to errors and demonstrating a commitment to improvement is key.
Learn and Move On: Use this as a learning experience. Proofread everything, even when you’re tired or in a rush. Many WSO users emphasize the importance of double-checking work, especially in high-stakes environments.
Recruiter Response: If the recruiter doesn’t respond, don’t assume the worst. They may simply be busy or have other priorities. Continue networking and applying elsewhere to keep your options open.
Remember, everyone makes mistakes. What defines you is how you recover and grow from them. Keep pushing forward!
