I think I'm going to cry. Am I the only one who's feeling down?
There are so many people on this forum who are talking about how they got interviews and offers. Like, ya'll just post about how you're going to have an interview and act like it's not going to bother anybody. I don't have any offers. Sucks man.
As a sophomore, this is my biggest fear right now.
I know, and I am. It's rough trying to bring my GPA as high as I can, network, be social, all at the same time. Even when you give it your best, something out of your control can screw you over (bad professor) and it just brings you down. I know it's not supposed to be easy, I'm just saying though.
Bad professor sounds like a huge excuse and you should lose the victim mentality as soon as possible. You may not be able to do all the things you want to do at the same time and you have to prioritise - if getting the job is your top priority, GPA, networking etc all matter and you may have to let go of a bunch of socialising if you're not in a situation where you have that luxury.
To elaborate a little, as an example I've gotten a bad grade in a class where I tried to go to office hours 2-3 times and where the professor agreed to meet with me but literally didn't show up (and then ignored my emails for a little while) every single time...if you could ever use the bad professor argument you could use it there. But I didn't let one bad grade bring down my overall GPA significantly and ended up getting the job I wanted most anyway. Takes some work but it's possible, and having a victim/things are unfair mentality will only make it much harder.
I guess it is an excuse. But what are you supposed to do when you put in a lot of work but the class average is awful? Meanwhile your friend is in the same class but with a different professor and their average is much much higher. My mindset is still do put in the most work I can and get the best results that I can, but every now and then you get set back by something like that.
I also do prioritize my tasks, but I was just saying that you need to do all of those things to be a well rounded person that people on here claim you should be.
1) I've also been in those classes...some people in those classes still get high grades - you either become one of those people, or don't let a lower grade significantly affect your overall GPA by doing really well elsewhere.
2) You do, and in most cases still can. However, the level of socialising most college kids deem "necessary" is much higher than it needs to be to remain a normal, non-socially awkward person. I'm not saying don't socialise - I'm just saying that at the end of the day, you can make all the excuses (you in general, not just you personally) you want but that's not going to help - and if you lose that victim mentality and just keep working till you get the offer, there should be no reason you don't
Instead of feeling down, let's try to rectify the problem. Why don't you have any offers?
As above, instead of complaining about it and letting it get you down, why not use it as inspiration and work harder to get interviews?
Everyone gets thrown a curve ball from time to time and it's normal to feel shitty. Be proactive, focus on what you can control (grades for example) and enjoy the little things. There are other jobs out there not in IB that pay very well with good exit opps, and if you're hellbent on IB it sounds like going back to a top MBA program will do the trick.
It's never a good feeling to be giving it your best effort and still fail. But keep at it. For ever 10 no's, there is usually one 'yes.' It's hard not to compare yourself to others, and honestly you're only handicapping yourself if you do. Give yourself an hour or two to be upset, and then let it go. It WILL get better.
Only takes one yes but you gotta have thick skin to make it in the game...
went through the same type of shit. Only one piece of advice for you: learn to enjoy the hustling process, if you can do that, getting no offers won't bother you because you know you'll keep trying and if you keep trying, you WILL get an offer.

Currently in a similar situation as well. I had multiple internships in relevant fields and had networked but the banks ended up giving interviews to those with a higher GPA. Damn.
