IB or nothing

I've made a bunch of posts on this forum before and have become increasingly frustrated with my prospects.

It seems unlikely I will get into IB since you have to do an internship and they pretty much only go to undergrads in their 2nd year.

Initially I planned that if I don't get an IB internship in the upcoming year I'll try for something similar like Big 4 transactions or corporate finance roles, but honestly I'm too entitled to do those because if I had just gone to a better university I would be able to get into IB right out of university. I wouldn't perform well in other jobs because I would constantly be angry that I didn't get into IB and ended up in some less prestigious role.

I have rich parents (not super rich but quite well off) so I've just decided that if I don't get into IB I'll retire and do nothing and live off my inheritance and just chill. Basically if I don't get into IB I'm not going to bother doing less prestigious jobs.

My question is that if 10 years or so into the future I do decide to enter the workplace after essentially not having worked for a decade, would I still be able to get into some small corporate finance type role? Would any job be feasible if I didn't work at all for a decade?

Will not working and just living off my inheritance make it difficult for me to ever work in the future if I did decide to enter the workplace?

If your parents are well off I'm surprised you haven't asked daddy to reach out to one of his friends and get you an internship. I'm sure he'd be happier doing that than having to support your unemployed ass

Seen your posts a lot and you are starting to annoy me. Do you think a society functions with just M&A bankers? Is every Forbes billionaire an MD at BB bank?

Ngl you are weak. To succeed in anything you need to have grit. In the words of Winston Churchil “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm.”

If you are giving up at the first hurdle, you will never be successful.

Of course society doesn't just function on M&A bankers lol but it's a far more prestigious job than something considered important like being a nurse or a teacher or even a doctor.

Yes, can confirm. When I'm in the A&E and someone rolls in with anaphylaxis/streptococcal toxic shock syndrome/cardiac arrest or other they say to me -

Man, you are such a loser. Couldn't get into Goldman, BofA, or even Barclays. Man, even the MMs wouldn't take you; imagine getting rejected by Piper Sandler! I guess if you failed to break into finance, you were forced to become a doctor. Well, good luck treating my son/daughter/father/mother, you un-prestigious piece of sh*t. Might as well work on your technicals or your M7 application while you're finding a cure for my relative!

All hail our prestigious investment banking analysts and private equity associates.

I’m pretty set on doing IB and I’m a non-target rising senior with no IB experience so my prospects are pretty bleak. If I don’t get a middle market offer for full time I’m going to see if there’s a regional boutique out there that might have an open spot. Always possible to lateral after that

There are also a bazillion no-name UK boutiques you can apply to as a British citizen from a non-target through networking

The bigger question is what could you possibly do for 10 years that is fulfilling where you aren't gaining any competencies that would translate to a job? I get it you can just chill for a year, two, three max traveling, partying, living a life of leisure. But, it will get old, boring, and leave you empty inside.

Ask yourself what do you want out of life because one thing is for certain no one makes it out alive.
