I'm a rising Sophomore at NYU. What should I be doing to secure an internship at a reputable firm for sophomore summer?

And no, I don't go to Stern. I'm at the CAS, so I think that limits some of my opportunities.

I would greatly appreciate if any of you could link some resources for internship hunting, or guides for what my general timeline should look like if my ultimate goal is to be somewhere in finance (ideally IB). I have a great fear of being late - I heard recruiting starts as early as July so I want to get on track fast.

This summer I just worked at a tiny PE firm that I found through a family friend, doing some basic Excel work for them. I want to level up and do something that's actually challenging and will make me feel like less of a nepo-baby.

TIA!

Not going to Stern is likely not the reason the opportunities are limited, as Stern hardos probably found a way to secure an internship instead of asking for resources. Cold email for an internship or even do an unpaid one. FYI, didn't go to Stern and had bad experience every single time I interacted with Stern kids.

I would love to hear about your experience working with Sternies, as I am considering transferring over. Is it anything beyond them being mega sweats and quite cut-throat?

thank you! just realized i haven't been utilizing enough of my school's resources

I heard it's one of the toughest frats to rush. I can't even consume one beer in full without feeling sick LOL. Must be my asian genetics at work...

On a real one, is it that helpful for networking?

better placement than AKPSI according to friend in it (isnt jewish)- also heard tough process tho but not sure
