Immediate resignation: Yes or no?

I want to tender my resignation effective immediately, and do not want to give the customary two week period. My thinking being corporations don’t give us any notice when they’re laying us off/firing us, so why should I extend that courtesy to them?

Just trying to understand if there are any possible ramifications of doing this, etc., and if anyone can provide some guidance to me.

Employment contracts are at will i.e., either party can terminate the contract with no notice. You will have to check your contract if a notice period is mandatory. Keep in mind that bailing without notice makes it less likely you will get a recommendation from anyone at that workplace.

Regardless of the employment environment, give the proper two weeks notice.  Companies are not in the business of layoffs, so do not take it personally.

If your Analyst 2 in IB title is current I wouldn't leave immediately. I recognize there is a trend to eschew such business formal practices and that the purpose of a notice period doesn't apply to all jobs; remember your circumstances may change and you might want a good reference or recommendation down the line. You're in a relationship-oriented business and this is the type of capital that is relatively inexpensive to acquire. If you do decide to leave, look over your employment details and make sure you're not leaving anything on the table.
