Investment Analyst Towers Watson
Anyone have any experience as an investment analyst or with Towers Watson. I have an interview coming up and to be honest, I still do not have a clear understanding of what exactly i'd be doing. Any input is welcome thanks.
One of my friends there is an Rx Collab Analyst and he says he lives in Excel all day, although TW is painfully slow in the summer.
This is in Toronto isn't it
TW at which country/state? The level of work depends on how many clients you're working with in the vicinity and the other departments.
To add to the existing comment, yes there'll be plenty of Excel work for you. In general there are going to be a lot of asset liability analysis, sensitivity testing, tracking bond yields against pension fund performance, providing regular market updates for specific teams, and supporting the rest of the company in terms of providing investment market information. You're expected to produce analysis on market movements and determine the optimal asset allocations for certain funds dependent on risk tolerance etc. You're also expected to track bond and stock indices yields in monthly, quarterly, annual, and x-year intervals every month. A lot of what you produce will be to support projects and give investment policy advice where required.
In terms of the workflow, there are regular rush seasons like the beginning of the year and around September, and usually not too much to do in the winter. In the past summers were slow but it depends on the needs of the other departments in the company who collaborate with investment on various ad hoc projects. The investment team here is pretty small so they're busy most of the time. A good perspective on macroeconomics and investment policies of the country/state in question would put you in a good position.
Good luck with the interview.
