Is an Econ degree worth it for me?

I am attending Bucknell U for Engineering next fall. however, I am considering switching to economics. I can not switch to the business school, so majors like finance are out of the question. Is a bucknell bachelors degree enough to get me a good finance/consulting/actuary/etc. job after school? If it helps, my college is paid for and I will have some money and no debt after school. I am also new, but have been reading for a while. Thanks!

Well, Econ is much closer to Finance than Engineering. Can't say anything about the college rankings though, but what you will learn with an econ degree overlaps with finance quite a lot. Also, with decent econ knowledge you will have a better top-down view on the industries you would like to pursue (finance, actuary etc.).

Never forget that fear is but the precursor to valor, that to strive and triumph in the face of fear is what it means to be a hero. Don’t think. Become.”

I suggest reading in the following order:

Econ major doing IB here. It was quite overwhelming at first (especially when you recruit for banking in sophomore year - you would not learn much about Econ as you wish). I used to feel like I have to teach Finance to myself, from market knowledge to modeling. However, things turn out nice after you reach the end of the junior year - finance now becomes an elective to economics. At this point, your background knowledge in Econ will allow you to understand Finance theory model quite profoundly. Also if you happen to loose interest with finance, Econ opens other decent doors.
