Is emailing the founding partner bad taste?
I have an interesting situation over here you all:
Last year, I recruited and signed an offer with an MM PE firm (intern) for summer 2024. Due to market conditions and internal restructuring, the intern program was axed and all offers were rescinded for the term.
Fortunately, I had other offers on the table and was able to move to another firm for the summer. However, I still want to intern at this firm for the experience (don't care about a return offer) and would like to ask for a spot in 2025.
I already asked a couple of people in HR, who either ghosted me or told me a no when it came to moving the offer.
So, would it be bad for me to directly email the founding partner and explain my situation to him - and circumvent HR?
I personally wouldn't do that unless you have some kind of a personal connection.
Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights:
Avoid Directly Emailing the Founding Partner: It's generally not advisable to email the founding partner directly, especially if you've already been turned down by HR. This could be seen as circumventing the established process and might not reflect well on you.
Alternative Approach: Instead, consider leveraging your network. If you have any connections within the firm, ask them to make an introduction or put in a good word for you. This can be a more subtle and effective way to get your foot back in the door.
Persistence with HR: While it can be frustrating, sometimes persistence with HR can pay off. Try to follow up politely and professionally, reiterating your interest and the value you believe you can bring to the firm.
Networking Strategy: If you decide to reach out to someone higher up, ensure it's done tactfully. Perhaps start with a more senior person in HR or a mid-level manager who might be more receptive to your situation.
Remember, the key is to be respectful of the firm's processes and to use your network effectively.

Not a good idea
Do it, lifes way too short. Worst case scenario he doesnt answer you and spends 23 seconds of his life thinking you are weird.
The email has to be written impeccably and not be too forceful but respectfully asking if they can make an exception. I do agree with this though. No harm in trying especially if you have fallback offers.
