Is it too late for me?

Currently a rising sophomore at a semi-target, and haven’t started studying for technicals yet or networking. I want to break into either REGAL or healthcare, and I know those coverage groups are especially competitive ones. Is it too late for me? If not, what can I do to catch up to everyone else?

It's not too late. Focus on networking and technical prep. Recruiting generally kicks off around December/January and continues through the spring, so use this time to connect with as many bankers as possible, especially in REGAL and Healthcare. Many banks have generalist summer analyst programs, and group placement happens later, but some require specific group applications. Concentrate on networking broadly and studying technicals using resources like M&I guides. Stay proactive, and good luck!

Asking techs during a coffee chat is considered a douchey thing to do and out of 130+ calls only one guy ever asked me techs. Networking calls are generally a vibe check where you kind of demonstrate who you are as a person plus a chance to ask any questions about the group or anything else that interests you. Its moreso about coming off as likeable rather than having a certain level of knowledge.
