Job Search / Unique Case
Hey all, hope all is well with you.
I am a Turkish-American dual citizen with a foreign name, but obviously no work authorization issues thanks to my US passport. 31 years old and my entire career so far has been with Turkish brokerages and asset managers. I want to relocate to the United States but I have to secure a job (at least an interview) before an actual relocation. I am married and have a two year old daughter so I'm not as flexible as I used to be.
I also recently got my CFA Charter. I never expected it to be a golden ticket into the industry and I know the job market isn't in an ideal state at the moment, but I applied to hunderds of positions through Linkedin Premium, and never got a single interview. I tried cities other than New York, I put in a US address, and I do have a US mobile number through Openphone. Yeah I still reside in Turkey but I can relocate within a few weeks notice, given I get a few interviews and they progress well.
Out of desperation, I now started to study for GMAT but I don't want to enroll in an MBA as I would lose two more years, I already have another masters degree and it's very expensive / Turkey's tightening capital controls are depressing me to the point that I don't know what to do anymore. I managed to sell a few things and transfer them to the United States but most of my assets still remain here.
Another issue is that I am a partner at the Turkish asset manager I'm currently at - a minority shareholder, that I plan to exit in a few months. I don't care about titles, my only concern is job security (and with the inherent country risk, I have no job security until I manage to land a job in the United States). I worry that my foreign name, foreign work experience and partner status is driving companies away. But it is indeed weird, having worked so much towards a Charter and never managing to get a single interview. I've DM'ed managing directors, recruiters, tried online networking, internal referrals, I'm giving it all I've got, but no success so far.
Is the job market really that terrible? Or am I missing something? I mean, do I really need an MBA to get a shot at seeing recruiters? Why does my resume never make it to the interview stage?
Thanks in advance for the help.
