Jump from Finance to MO...What's the approach?

Hi All, Cutting to the chase, I am a young VP in my 6th year at one of the big banks on the street (Fidi district located). Starting at Lehman during my college days up through now, I've dabbled in Market focused Analytics roles along with some time in internal consulting.

Looking to break free from the "Big Bank" idea and settle in a smaller shop. A shop where my voice is heard, compensation is "more so" aligned with performance and drive and where the road for growth exist. Having little to no experience with day-to-day MO operations (besides my brother being a former MO employee turned trader), I am seeking out any/all advice as to what I can do to get myself where I want to be!

I'm confident in my abilities and have a proven track record in my current line of work.

What should I be focusing on? Best approach? Where to begin?
