Jumping into the financial industry with no experience
Good evening, I have a degree in Finance but have not had the chance to put it to good use. I am currently a bread man and because of the money I make. I have not venture outside of route sales. I am looking for a career change and was wondering if anyone can give me any advice or point me in the direction I need to go in. I desire to become an analyst for a hedge fund, investment banking, or any analyst position.
What are you interested in or what could you see yourself doing for the next several decades
I always wanted to be a stockbroker. I am interested in helping people get out of debt and make better financial decisions. I like numbers and problem solving.
ditto with the financial advisor role. being a stockbroker is a little bit different then what you might expect.
I have a few questions:
I work for a company called Bimbo Inc (largest fresh baking company in the United States). Bimbo has divisions like Arnold, Thomas, Strohemann, Entenmann's and others. I work for Stroehmann as a route sales representative. A route sales rep. is assigned to customers (markets, restaurants, schools, etc.) in a area and is responsible for marketing, sales, and any problems their customers might have.
For example, If a sStroehmann rep. has a Wegmann's on their route. They are responsible for making sure the shelves are full of product (bread) and all promotion displays are setup.
Yes, that is a picture of me. I could not find a better picture.
In that case reseach financial advisor and private wealth management. These careers blend sales, advisory, and finance. You deliver bread, I make Wonder.
Hahahahah, nice.
Thanks for the advice.
Thanks for the explanation. I thought it had something to do with making bread in the sense of making money.
Change your username please. You are making me nervous about how easy it is to find you online.
I think you need to explore other options besides hedge fund analyst. It's not clear why that is something you really want to do, other than it sounds interesting (aka, you think you can make a lot of money at it). Have you ever explored brand management or marketing roles? These are often difficult jobs to get and require broad skill sets that you may be able to leverage from your current position. My suggestion is that you research this kind of position and think about how you market yourself to these companies. If not that, think of something which allows you to market your skills in your current position or background.
Hedge fund or securities analyst is not a logical step for you, in my opinion.
Oh I get it now...it's because bread is made out of dough.
